My cancer so far…

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in Dec 2019. I hadn’t been feeling ‘right’ for at least a year beforehand, but I couldn’t really pinpoint why. I couldn’t run as far or as fast as before, but thought I was getting old, or was menopausal, or was anaemic !

In Nov 19, I found a lump in my armpit, it took about 4 weeks to get my cancer diagnosis (Her2 pos., hormone neg.). In Jan 2020 I had my first of 6 rounds of chemo – most of them during lockdown ! being bald during lockdown wasn’t all bad 🙂 Then I had all the lymph nodes removed from my armpit. No cancer could be found in my breast, so it stayed where it was, in one piece ! After the lymph node removal operation, I had 15 radiotherapy treatments and Trastuzumab (Herceptin) injections for a year. Then it was over…..or so I thought.

2021 / 22, I’d been feeling great !! running, cycling and swimming all going really well, getting faster and mentally I felt really good. I’d had 2 mammograms, the first was OK, but the second, in July 22, was ‘unclear’. Nightmare.

After more investigation, a small 7mm cancerous lump was found in my breast. Thankfully, the CT scans showed it hadn’t gone anywhere else (waiting to hear the CT scan news is the most scared I’ve ever been – I can’t describe how it feels to look death in the eye).

I was offered a lumpectomy, but I wanted to get rid of the whole boob – it was doing me no favours (I actually hated it) !! so, I had a mastectomy in Sept 22. Two lymph nodes were also removed – one cancerous, the other not.

I start the first of 4 rounds of chemo this Thursday – 27th Oct :-/ then I’ll have a year of Pertuzumab and Trastuzumab.

To be continued……..
