I. AM. A. LAKESMAN

Well….a half Lakesman…I. AM. A. HALF LAKESMAN 😆😁😁

That’s one of my big triathlons done and dusted :-))))

Survived – but only just 🫤

Here’s a quick summary – the swim was cold – 14 degrees. It was busy but OK – took it really easy but got out of the water cold. Couldn’t find my bag in T1 – the helpers couldn’t find it – took 12 minutes in T1. I had hand warmers in my gloves and warm water to put on my hands and feet BUT I was so, so cold on the bike – too cold – I’m not sure I didn’t have hypothermia :-(( uncontrollable, violent shivering, couldn’t unclench my jaw, and don’t remember the first part of the cycle !! I was so close to stopping at the first aid stop at 18 miles. BUT THERE IS NO WAY I COULD STOP.

‘DO HARD THINGS’ and ‘JUST KEEP GOING’ – thanks Jamie !!

Kept going – started to warm up when we got to the hilly bit and was OK for the last 20 miles.

Absolutely loved, loved, loved the run – totally smashed the run – surprised myself at how good I felt.

Finished in 5hours 59 minutes !!!! hurrraaayyyyyy under 6 hours – That’s what I had dreamed of, but didn’t think I could do :-)))) (and that’s with 17 minutes in transition!!)

Afterwards, for some strange reason, after being hypothermic, I was craving icecream 😁

All my M3 team mates and buddies from other tri clubs did so well. Everyone was amazing and the support for each other, and from their friends and family was brilliant 🤩🤩🤩

We had another couple of days in the apartment so we could have a wee, mini holiday.

Keswick is lovely, in a outdoorsy shop and patisserie with coffee kind of way.

We hired a boat the next day and pluffed around on Derwentwater – the weather was gorgeous ☀️☀️

The boat was actually hilarious. It was quite small and Chris is..em..quite big, so with him sitting on the side with the steering wheel, it would really only go round in circles, so he had to sit in the middle at the back while I captained hahaha (he wasn’t impressed by the 5hp engine anyway).

Then we went to a place called Maryport. Chris wanted to go to the beach !! I’m sure that’s logical when you are in the Lake District surrounded by mountains and lakes ??!?

It was quite different to Keswick – we thought it could be twinned with Arbroath 🙄 (charity shops and bookies lol)…BUT we really liked it – the beach was gorgeous and it had a Roman museum and a Fairy path !

The next day, on the way home, we stopped at a quarry and vintage excavator museum, with a mini train hahaha.

It was cool – honestly – I could tell you all about excavators through the decades 😆

Had to be done 😆😆😆😆

All in all a successful trip :-))))

What’s next ……….

My next big triathlon is Aberfeldy and I am really dreading being so cold again….not sure I can go there again ☹️🥺😩 oh dear…

Also, the Brig Bash – a flat, 5 mile road race.

The Monikie Sprint Triathlon – run by M3 – its brilllllliant :-))))

And the mixed team relay at Monikie in the afternoon !!

Lots of other stuff going on too, for my next blog 😁😁🤩😍
